Overview

The Doctor of Philosophy In Christian Theology program is an advanced degree program designed to provide students with a deeper understanding of God and associated Christian thoughts. The PhD program is typically a three to five-year program, depending on the scope and limitation of the student’s research work and the individual student’s pace. It is meant for individuals who wish to pursue a career in academia, ministry or community development and are interested in specializing in systematic study of Christian doctrines. This program is highly rigorous and requires a strong foundation in theological, religious and biblical studies, as well as significant research and writing skills. Overall, the PhD in Christian Theology program provides a comprehensive education in theology, bible studies and Christian life, preparing graduates to make valuable contributions to their chosen field.

Learning Outcomes

  • The program consists of research-based coursework, independent study, and a thesis or dissertation.
  • Throughout the program, students are expected to engage in original research, critically analyse existing literature, and develop their own theories and perspectives.
  • Students can choose to focus on areas such as theology, ethics, or biblical studies.
  • In addition to their coursework and independent study, students may have the opportunity to participate in fieldwork or internships related to their chosen area of specialization.
  • Graduates of this program are often qualified for leadership positions in religious organizations or academic institutions.

  • O-level (Secondary School Education) result (not more than two sittings).
  • Three-year Doctor of Philosophy/Doctor of Theology programme: MA in Theology from LATS or its equivalent (MA, MTh, MATS, MBS, MDiv), with at least a 2.75 GPA on a 4-point scale or 3.5 on a 5-point scale or a 2.2 class award from a recognized Bible College, Seminary or University.
  • Chest/Waist-to-head clean corporate picture (for virtual students).
  • Three (3) passport photos.
  • Health Report or medical Fitness Certificate.
  • National ID
  • Two (2) recommendation letters. One from your Church and the other from your place or work, school or others.

Other Requirements:

  • Submit a personal Statement of Purpose (SOP) of no more than two pages.
  • Submit a research proposal when applying to LATS.
  • Find and contact a Research Supervisor(s)/Mentor(s) in your field/area of concentration.
  • Application Fee = $50 (₦15,000)
  • Student ID Card = $5 (₦1,000)
  • Yearly Tuition Fee with a Scholarship = $1,500 (₦150,000)
  • Yearly Main Campus Development Levy = $100 (₦20,000)
  • Yearly Library Fee = $10 (₦3,000)
  • Yearly ICT Fee = $20 (₦5,000)
  • School Vest = $20 (₦5,000)
  • Yearly Hostel Fee (optional) = $200 (₦30,000)

Note: For you to enjoy the tuition scholarship, kindly indicate the “President Tuition Scholarship” when you are filling out the application form.

  • Duration: Three (3) years of full-time or part-time studies.
  • There is a possibility that some doctoral candidates MAY spill their completion of “Doctoral Dissertation” into the fourth-sixth year, depending on the nature and scope of their dissertations.
  • Mode of Study: Hybrid (mentor-directed studies).

Our Team

Rev. (Mrs) Deborah Akanbi (PhD) is passionate about leading people to Christ and equipping them to understand the transformational power embedded in the many facets of theological education. She currently serves as the Lead Faculty of the Centre for Prophetic Studies and Transformation, a department of Lord’s Anointed Theological Seminary in Lagos, Nigeria. She also holds the position of Senior Research Fellow at Testament Theological Seminary, Lagos, Nigeria.

Her extensive background spans diverse disciplines, with a primary focus on Biblical Philosophy, Prophetic Ministry, and Existential Well-Being. Her research works weaves philosophy, theology, and personal development together, as she shares her wisdom and insights to raise leaders that would equip the Body of Christ and inspire profound change and flourishing in every dimension of life.
